RALSTON WHITE RETREAT

MILL VALLEY, CALIFORNIA

LOCATION

Our class site is a beautiful mansion nestled among redwood trees on the southeastern slope of Mt. Tamalpais about 20 minutes north of the Golden Gate Bridge (see location of site on map of California or get driving directions). The 14,000 square foot home has three stories, a number of balconies with spectacular views and beautiful furnishings throughout. This location provides an exceptional opportunity for dream incubation and contemplative exploration through dreams. We invite you to bring your dream journal and enter into the dreamworld dialogue as part of the overall Intensive experience.

ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE TIMING

NOTE:  The following times are for the standard 5-night Intensive, see below* for 3-night weekends.

The package price includes Sunday dinner through Friday lunch – with our program ending at 3pm Friday. The site is always booked on weekends so it is not possible to check in an extra day early (Saturday) nor to stay an extra night (Friday) at the end.

Please plan to arrive at the site between 4pm Sunday afternoon and dinner time – or at least by the start of the intensive at 8:50am Monday morning.

Please plan to depart the site promptly at 3pm Friday so that the staff can prepare for the next group arriving for their Friday dinner and weekend. We will try to match those with cars with students needing a drop-off at the airporter bus stop.

* For 3 night weekends (e.g. Aug 27-30, 2010) please arrive after breakfast (9am Friday) and plan to stay until 5pm Monday.  For such weekends meals from Friday lunch through Monday lunch are included.

TRANSPORTATION

For Marin County’s full list of transport services from the airports, including door-to-door vans, click here or see two good airporter bus options below:

FROM SFO TO MANZANITA MILL VALLEY: The easiest airport is San Francisco International Airport (SFO). Marin Airporter Busses pick up passengers at SFO every 30 minutes, on the hour and half-hour, between 5:00 and midnight. No reservations are required.

Your destination is “Manzanita Mill Valley”. Look for the buses with the rainbow. For bus photo click here and for bus schedule click here. The driver may even ask if he should arrange a taxi for you upon arrival in Mill Valley. It makes one stop en route, and often not even that stop. The minimum travel time is 45-50 minutes. Adult fare is $18.00, as of the summer of 2008.

For all domestic flights, the pick up point for Marin Airporter is outside of baggage claim (located on the lower level), on the center courtesy island. The busses stop at the "Marin/Sonoma County" sign, next to the large blue pillar labeled "Airporters".

From the International Terminal, the new pick-up point for Marin Airporter is on the arrivals (baggage claim) level. To find the bus, cross to the center island, and wait at the green and white striped curb. Look for the sign saying "Airporter".

From the Manzanita Mill Valley bus stop a taxi would take 12-15 minutes and cost about $15+tip.

TRANSPORT FROM OAKLAND AIRPORT: This is less convenient than SFO airport but “Sonoma County Airport Express” buses costing $20-22 do leave every 2 hours 6am to midnight (6am, 8am, …) and take 1 hour to get to San Rafael (Third and Heatherton), see schedule. Buses pick up and disembark passengers at the Ground Transportation Center platform marked "4E Scheduled Buses." The location is directly outside baggage claim across four lanes of traffic between the two terminals. Take the bus to San Rafael. From there the taxi would take about 20 minutes and cost another $20-25.

RETREAT HOUSING

The large, three-story mansion can accommodate 45 overnight guests in private, semi-private and dormitory bedrooms - all with shared bathroom facilities. The spacious building layout of interconnecting rooms, nooks and porches (and movable beds) has diverse options for you to consider upon arrival. We will have the facility to ourselves and can spread out to give more privacy.  Ralston White has a number of private bedrooms with two twin beds that may be used for one person or shared for an additional price of $250 per room for the week (or $125 per person if shared). If you are interested in this option, please coordinate with your 'roommate' (if any) and inform our Registrar, registrar@wisdomuniversity.org,  if you are specifying your roommate.

ALTERNATIVE HOUSING

While we encourage you to stay at the retreat site with us, for en suite bathrooms there are alternative hotels around Mill Valley and one close alternative hotel. Please note that Ralston White Retreat Center charges a daily site fee to cover their many costs to run and maintain the location. Given the incredible food at Ralston White, we have negotiated a reduced combination rate for commuting and Lunches. $175 in 2009 ($185 in 2010) for the 5-day week ($148 for the rare 4-day, 3-night weekend) includes LUNCH for five days, coffee service, facility and trail use and parking.

MEALS

Meals are mouth-watering and received great reviews. Meals are included in the package price and served buffet-style in the mansion’s dining room. There will be a set menu for each meal (a vegetarian option is always available) and you may view sample menus here.

COST

Single, Twin, Dorm and Commuter prices are in addition to Tuition (or Auditor Fee) , and each package price is listed on the registration page for each 5-day week (Sunday from 4pm and dinner through Friday at 3pm) and the rare 4-day weekend (e.g. Friday 9am through Mon. 5pm).  These include coffee service, registration handling fee and free internet wifi if you bring your laptop.  If staying overnight (all but commuters), these also include towels and linens. Click here for costs and registration information.
